The Reference for Sound Professionals

The ribbon microphone in context...

A legendary reference for sound professionals, it played a key role in the heyday of 'crooners', who appreciated its particularly natural, warm sound.

However, as with most 'ribbon' equipment, its very high price, bulky size and relative fragility inevitably led to its replacement by equipment that was much more practical and easy to use.

Only a few purists continued to use them, unable to bring themselves to sacrifice sound for ease of use...

Ribbon Stereo Lanen

Today, still in active collaboration with Ludovic Lanen, we have succeeded in designing a new ribbon microphone of modern conception whose price, equal to the quality of the greatest references of the genre, is finally accessible to the greatest number... Small studios, home-studists, musicians...

Michel-Yves Kochmann

"I had the pleasure of testing the Ribbon Stereo Ludovic Lanen RSL microphone from Prodipe.

It's very easy to wire up using the 'Y' supplied. Once I'd plugged it into my Neve 4081 preamp, I discovered an extremely warm sound, with defined, non-aggressive highs and a vintage grain that was to die for...

The stereo 'placement' is very natural: you 'rediscover' your room. I used it to record dobros - and the composer I was working for that day loved the softness and warmth it gave to the sound. For certain vintage acoustic sounds, it was also very pleasant.

Another use: as an ambient microphone a few metres away from the acoustic instruments recorded, to gently add 'room'..."

A reference for sound professionals

  • The warm, natural sounds of the 50s and 60s.
  • The finesse of the stereo recordings.
  • Respect for the timbre of instruments and a very natural reproduction of their sound.
  • Ability to withstand very high sound levels: guitar amp at full volume, for example.
  • High frequencies that are never aggressive: brass instruments, metallic percussion, even when recording close up.
  • A figure-of-eight directional pattern that captures the ambience of the room from behind, and isolates sources on either side of the microphone almost perfectly.

Comparable to the best references on the market

So R.S.L. is clearly one of the best value for money on the market!

The 'research and development' was carried out in France, in active collaboration with the indispensable French sound engineer Ludovic Lanen

"For over 30 years, I've been trusting my ears rather than a price tag, because quality is theonly thing that matters tome! I've tested and compared over a hundred cells. Many of them were much more expensive, less good and less efficient than the ones I selected and optimised to develop the Prodipe range of microphones, whose performance I can guarantee. A level of quality identical to many professional references that I use on the biggest stages."
